Last week in AI search — what changed and what it means

19 May 2026 · 3 min read

A busy week across the major AI search platforms. Here's what moved, and what it means for brand visibility.

Google expanded AI Overviews to cover a broader range of commercial queries, including more B2B service categories. If you're in professional services, SaaS or specialist retail, your category may now have AI-generated summaries appearing above organic results. Check your key terms in Search and see whether an Overview appears — and if it does, whether you're cited or not.

Perplexity updated its citation weighting algorithm, placing greater emphasis on domain authority signals and structured data presence. Sites with Organisation and Service schema are consistently outperforming those without in Perplexity citations. If you haven't implemented schema markup, this is now urgent.

ChatGPT Browse continues to improve at following links from trusted aggregators — review sites, industry directories and trade publications. Getting your brand listed and accurately described on the platforms ChatGPT trusts is increasingly as valuable as on-site optimisation. Audit where you appear (and how) across third-party platforms this week.
